Potential Flooding Notice for Residents
With the spring thaw approaching, the Town of Arborg is advising residents of the potential for localized flooding within the community.
🏗️ Town Preparations Underway
The Town is actively monitoring conditions and preparing response measures
- Sandbags are being filled at the Town Shop early next week
- A public notice will be issued when sandbags are available for pickup
- Public Works will be opening drains as needed to manage water flow
⚠️ Important Notice
Municipal efforts will focus on essential infrastructure and drainage systems.
Flooding on private land is not considered a priority response area.
🏡 How Residents Can Prepare
Property owners are encouraged to take preventative steps:
- ❄️ Move snow away from building foundations
- 💧 Clear downspouts and ensure they discharge away from your home
- 🕳️ Keep nearby swales and drains free of ice and debris
Sump Pump Check:
- ⚙️ Test your sump pump by pouring water into the pit to ensure it activates
- 🔌 Confirm the pump is plugged in and power is working
- 🚿 Ensure discharge hoses are clear and draining away from the home
Property Drainage:
- 🏠 Make sure the ground around your home slopes away from the foundation
- 🧱 Check that driveways, sidewalks, decks, and patios have not shifted and are not directing water toward your house
Basement Protection:
- 📦 Avoid placing valuables directly on basement floors
- 🪣 Keep materials on hand to help divert water if needed
